About This Innovation
* Norwood designed the Multispectral Scanner first used on Landsat 1, which enabled scientists to map & study the Earth. * She also designed the microwave transmitter Surveyor 1 used to transmit data & images back to earth. * Norwood continued to oversee Landsat 1-5 (#10 is scheduled for launch in 2030). * She has been referred to as "The Mother of Landsat". She holds 3 patents (1 is classified) for her contribution to the Landsat program.
