Isolated a pure form of tuberculin (purified protein derivative known as PPD); developed a TB test that became the standard in the U.S. in 1941 & the WHO standard in 1942; pioneered safe IV therapy by inventing a spray-catching trap (not patented) to prevent contamination during distillation while at University of Chicago (later adopted by FDA NIH & various pharmaceutical companies); while at Yale studied the IV injection of milk proteins & developed a method to prevent them from being contaminated with bacteria;
