In 2002 Silva invented Beautyblender, a make-up application sponge that replicates airbrushing without cumbersome equipment. It was created as a tool to avoid the hassle of having to use an airbrush to apply foundation on set. She created a simple prototype in 2002 so she could capitalize on the product, at first catering the product to industry professionals, such as make-up artists. In 2008, Silva began selling direct to consumers.
