Achievements: 1937 with the help of NAACP attorney Thurgood Marshall sued Calvert County Board of Education for equal pay for teachers of all races & resulted in Maryland Teachers' Pay Equalization Act established in 1941

worked as a teacher in Calvert County Public Schools & was promoted to Principal for 0ver 30 years

filed her suit against the Board of education after learning she was earning $600 monthly & her White counterparts with the same experience, education & duties were earning $1,100, the suit cited this as a violation of the 14th Amendment

the intersection of Route 2 & Pushaw Station road where the original school she taught at was located bears a historical marker commemorating her suit against the Board of Education

a community Center in Prince Frederick county bears her name
