discovered the genetic basis of Rett syndrome-a neurodevelopmental disease effective girls between the ages of 6 months & 2 years & discovered it was an inherited disease; also studies SCA1 another neurodevelopmental disease; discovered the cause of Rett syndrome is mutations in methyl-CpG-binding protein MECP2; discovery could lead to breakthroughs in autism & Alzheimers.
