Achievements: revolutionized the way train tracks were constructed with her invention, The Gibbon Double Girder Lap-Joint Track, constructed with just four main parts, greatly reduced the number of parts needed, helping to make construction more efficient;

The Gibbon track was composed of four main parts: the rail, the chair, the tie-bar, and the wedge while the previously used system pieced together no less than 28 separate pieces of metal at each joint and required 25 individual holes be made
