Holyoke College established a research program studying the ultraviolet spectra of hydrocarbons & established a link between the frequencies of the absorptions & the enthalpy change of combustion of the compound; participated in the International Critical Tables of the International Research Council working with Professor Victor Henri of the Unversity of Zurich; was a worldwide leader in the use of the ultraviolet spectra of organic molecules as a means of investigating their electronic structures; her research studies in the 1930s contributed to the understanding of the carbon-carbon double bond
