Geiling to identify what in Elixir Sulfamilamide was killing people. * Resulted in changes to the 1906 Food & Drug Act & instrumental in the formulation of the 1938 Food Drug & Cosmetics Act. * As a reviewer for FDA, Kelsey refused in 1960 to authorize thalidomide for market because she had concerns about the lack of evidence regarding the drug's safety. * Looked for a synthetic quinine to cure malaria. * Learned some drugs could pass through the placental barrier.
