most well known for devising household gadgets for convenience but more specifically for designing and building the first "self-cleaning house;" The house incorporated 68 of her separate inventions from a self-cleaning dishwasher, a self-cleaning fireplace, and even giving her dog a bath by routing the receding water used to clean the house through the dog house. Each room contained a cleaning apparatus that was roughly 10 square inches in the center of the room. The self-cleaning system works by opening a valve and then pushing a button. This activates a sprinkler system that dispenses soap and water across the room. This automated car wash-like system cleans ceilings, walls, floors, windows, curtains, and furniture. Gabe obtained 36 patents for various pieces of cleaning inventions she invented; 1 of her inventions was for a material used to cover upholstery which is strong enough to hold molten steel but soft enough to sleep on comfortably; to cope with laundry she designed a tightly sealed cabinet where soiled clothing was placed inside on hangers, washed and dried there with jets of water and air, and then, still on hangers, pulled neatly by a chain into the clothes closet;

The Finkbeiner test is a checklist proposed by freelance journalist Christie Aschwanden to help journalists avoid gender bias in media articles about women in science. To pass the test, an article about a female scientist must not mention: That she is a woman, her husband's job, her childcare arrangements, how she nurtures her underlings, how she was taken aback by the competitiveness in her field, how she is a role model for other women, how she's the "first woman to ..."

Aschwanden produces the podcast "Emerging Form" which discusses the creative process. She has investigated different factors influencing the research process & spent 1 year (2015) investigating whether science was "broken". Her investigations have considered scientific misconduct and fraud, and found that whilst these cases made headlines, they were a "mere distraction" from science itself. She has studied P-hacking, a method that involves narrowing or expanding data sets to prove a particular hypothesis.

She found that regardless of the strategy applied by the child, they learn words at the same rate.[12] She did, however, find strong predictive power in the child's vocabulary at 13 and 20 months old and their grammatical complexity at 2 years old.[13] Bates finds that language learning comes from the neural plasticity in the brain; therefore, children can and are able to learn a language, even with brain trauma. showed that after brain injury, adult aphasic patients' deficits were not specific to linguistic structures theorized to be localized to specific brain areas,[15] or even restricted to the linguistic domain. Previously, all barrels were made by hand in a manual process. In 1880, after observing widespread advertisement for businesses desperately in search of barrel coopers, she asked her son, Oscar, whether there was any available machine that would make barrels and remove the need for coopers. After hearing that there wasn't, she became determined to create a solution and began brainstorming designs for a barrel-hooping machine capable of reliably and efficiently hooping wood together to create barrels.[8] In 1881, Beasley won her first patent for a barrel-hooping machine,[11] followed by a second version of the patent (including one filed in the United Kingdom) in 1882.[12][27] Her machine is designed to fit hoops tightly onto both sides of the barrel simultaneously, using two reciprocating heads, firmly-secured "hooping-toes" to guide the hoops, and a combination of springs, screws and levers.[11] Her updated patent aims to account for differences and imperfections in the shape of barrel staves and hoops; it uses radially-adjustable arms and jaws to hold materials more firmly in place.[12] The final design was capable of hooping 1,600-1,700 barrels per day, far more than a barrel cooper could hoop on their own.[8]
